Our Trip To Cambodia
In summer of 2022, I got the opportunity to visit Cambodia, specifically the school our club supports: Bak Dov Primary School near the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. It was such an amazing experience! I got to go with my teacher/mentor who has been there 17 times under her non-profit: the "Ridgewood Cambodia Club." (she supports another school in Cambodia near Bak Dov Primary).
There were 600 students in total at the school. Using the money we have collected this past year, I was able to buy each student a neon pencil, some pipe cleaners, a picture bingo board, and dum-dums. The picture bingo boards, and pipe cleaners made for some fun activities! I also bought some inflatable earth balls for each of the classrooms. They were all over the moon to receive so much!
During my trip, I got to meet all the teachers and the principal. After we visited each classroom, they treated us to some traditional Cambodian food to thank us! The principal also presented EBBL with an award for all our work and effort. It was truly an honor to receive it. Before, I left I also gave all the teachers a keychain with “EBBL” engraved on it as a parting gift before my next trip!
A Welcoming Entrance
When we came, we were welcomed with beautiful scarfs as gifts from the school. The students also all stood in a line and sang a song to greet us!
Picture Bingo!
Requiring minimal translating, picture bingo turned out to be a fun and engaging activity for all ages! It also allowed the students to learn a few English words!!
